13 May Minimum wage survey
The Chamber of Commerce is asking for responses to a survey on the proposed increase to the minimum wage.
The responses will feed into Chamber’s wider response to the Committee for Employment & Social Security ahead of the 28 May 2026 deadline on the proposed changes.
ESS is proposing the adult minimum wage increases from £12.60 to £13.10 per hour. This would apply to all workers aged 18 and over, including apprentices aged 18 and over, from 1 October 2026.
ESS is also proposing equalising the Young Person’s Minimum Wage with the adult rate.
The Young Person’s Minimum Wage is currently set at 90% of the Adult Rate.
If the two rates are equalised, all workers aged 16 and over would be paid £13.10 an hour from 1 October 2026. That would be around a 15% increase compared to the current young adult’s rate of £11.35 per hour.
