The Guernsey Press has reported that the Millennium Tapestry is to go on public display within the Town Market Buildings.

The newspaper has reported that the Inner Street has been granted a change of use to allow part of the space to be used as an art gallery.

The tapestry was made by hundreds of volunteers during the late 1990s, and it shows scenes of island life over the previous millennium. It has often been described as Guernsey’s version of the Bayeux Tapestry.

It had previously been on public display at St James before being taken down in 2024 when a new location was sought. The move to the Market Buildings will be complete before the ‘Year of the Normans’ which will see a number of cultural and educational activities held during 2027.

The Guernsey Retail Group welcomes the move of the Millennium Tapestry to the St Peter Port Market Buildings as it will help to bring people into the heart of our town.

The Market Square has already benefited from new businesses opening in the area including retailers and eateries.
